Attitudegray is about reclamation.
Discarded objects. Worn surfaces. Packaging, fragments, and found materials that might otherwise be overlooked.
I create layered, colorful work from what remains. I work intuitively, allowing castoff materials to become pattern, rhythm, meditation, and story.
But reclamation is larger than the materials I use.
It is a way of seeing—and of paying attention to what others may have already dismissed.
I am interested in the evidence left behind: wear, age, interruption, repetition, damage, repair. The marks that show something has been handled, used, valued, abandoned, or changed. I do not see imperfection as something to disguise. It is part of the story.
Attitudegray is where art and reflection meet. It is an exploration of what endures, what changes, and what can be made from the life already lived.
Not everything should be returned to what it once was.
Some things are waiting to become what they have not yet been.

I am JoAnn Teel — an artist, writer, creative maker, and lifelong seeker of meaning in the ordinary. My work begins with what others might overlook: packaging, worn objects, castoffs, scraps, and surfaces waiting to become something more. Through color, pattern, repetition, and intuition, I reclaim them.
